{"id":10851282,"date":"2018-11-06T03:09:26","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T03:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/support\/?post_type=helphub_article&#038;p=10851282"},"modified":"2024-06-08T18:44:01","modified_gmt":"2024-06-08T18:44:01","slug":"settings-media-screen","status":"publish","type":"helphub_article","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/article\/settings-media-screen\/","title":{"rendered":"Settings Media screen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Settings Media Screen<\/strong> controls the various settings related to images and other media that are used in writing posts and pages.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"853\" height=\"531\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2018\/11\/media-setting.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10851292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2018\/11\/media-setting.png 853w, https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2018\/11\/media-setting-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2018\/11\/media-setting-768x478.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need php-gd (GD graphics library) installed on your server to use this feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Media Settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Image sizes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The sizes listed below determine the maximum dimensions in pixels to use when inserting an image into the body of a post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Thumbnail size<\/strong> &#8211; Enter the <strong>Width<\/strong> and <strong>Height<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)<\/strong> &#8211; checkbox<br>    <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Medium size<\/strong> &#8211; Enter the<strong> Max Width<\/strong> and <strong>Max Height<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Large size<\/strong> &#8211; Enter the <strong>Max Width<\/strong> and <strong>Max Height<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uploading Files<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Default settings used for during the media upload process when writing a post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders<\/strong> &#8211; Check this box if you wish to organize your uploads into folders based on the year and the month of the upload. As of 3.5, wp-content\/uploads is the default path setting for the uploads folder. Assuming this is your path setting, if you check this box, a file uploaded in June of 2018 would be placed into the wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06 folder. Note: At the time of the actual upload, WordPress will automatically create the folders, such as wp-content\/uploads\/2018 and wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06, as long as your wp-content folder is writeable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Save Changes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the <strong>Save Changes<\/strong> button to ensure any changes you have made to your Settings are saved to your database.
