You can resize the block by moving the tooltip up and down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2019\/03\/resize-coverblock.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-toolbar\">Block toolbar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each block toolbar comes with different options. These block toolbars let you customize or modify the block in the editor. Choosing this will allow you to select a new image file for your block. Use this if you need to replace the image file in your <strong>Cover block<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These controls give you the option to copy, duplicate, and edit your block as HTML.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e5f5fa\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/article\/more-options\/\">Read about these and other settings.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Block settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>WordPress blocks have specific configuration options in the block settings panel. To access the <strong>Cover <\/strong>block settings panel, click the Settings button at the top-right corner of the editor screen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The <strong>Cover <\/strong>block settings panel is divided into two tabs \u2013 Settings and Styles. It contains the following sections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Layout<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"505\" height=\"412\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-6.png\" alt=\"The layout settings for the cover block\" class=\"wp-image-16358923\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-6.png 505w, https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-6-300x245.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Layout section, you will see the following customization options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <em>Inner blocks use the content width toggle<\/em> button, allowing nested blocks to use content width with options for full and wide widths.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>Content width<\/em> tool lets you customize the width for all elements assigned to the center or wide columns.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Media settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"361\" height=\"771\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-7.png\" alt=\"The media settings for the cover block\" class=\"wp-image-16358924\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-7.png 361w, https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-7-140x300.png 140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fixed background<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"67\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2020\/12\/Screenshot54545dffd.png\" alt=\"Fixed background setting for the cover image \" class=\"wp-image-13786429\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fixed background setting for the cover image<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the block settings on the sidebar, you have some other options, the first of which is a toggle for a fixed background. A fixed background means the cover image scrolls along with your page. Turning this option off embeds the image in place, so the image doesn&#8217;t scroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2020\/08\/Cover87899-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repeated background<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"65\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2019\/03\/Screenshot-repeated123.png\" alt=\"Repeated background settings for the cover image\" class=\"wp-image-13786434\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Repeated background<\/strong> option lets you repeat the same image to form a pattern in the Cover block. For example, if you have a small image and you want it to repeat multiple times in the Cover block, you can enable this option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video autoplay controls loop muted src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2020\/12\/5-05cb8f618d67.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the <strong>Repeated background<\/strong> toggle in combination with <strong>Fixed background<\/strong>, but <strong>Fixed background<\/strong> does not necessarily have to be turned on. Feel free to play around with these options to find what suits your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Focal point picker<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"556\" height=\"662\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2019\/03\/cover-block-focalpoint.png\" alt=\"Focal point picker for the cover image\" class=\"wp-image-16355766\" style=\"width:278px;height:331px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2019\/03\/cover-block-focalpoint.png 556w, https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2019\/03\/cover-block-focalpoint-252x300.png 252w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Focal point picker for the cover image<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If the fixed background option is turned off, you will see the focal point picker. This tool lets you identify the main point of interest in the photo and highlight. Click on the picker to drag it to the spot you want, or use the left and top position percentages below to set it manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clear media button removes the media and any changes you have to it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alternative text<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The alternative text field allows you to add an alternative text for the cover image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Color<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"435\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-8.png\" alt=\"The color settings for the cover block\" class=\"wp-image-16358925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-8.png 435w, https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/files\/2023\/10\/image-8-300x221.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Color settings, you can customize the <strong>Cover <\/strong>block by adding text, background, and link colors. The color selections vary depending on your active theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also add a gradient color to the <strong>Cover <\/strong>block. To do that, transform the block into the Media &amp; Text block. Click the Background option and select the Gradient tab. Choose a color from the list. Convert the Media &amp; Text block back into the <strong>Cover <\/strong>block.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e5f5fa\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/documentation\/article\/colors-settings-overview\/\">Learn more about the Color settings.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Filter options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Filters section contains the Apply duotone filter option.
