Installation

Minimum Requirements

• WordPress 3.8 or greater
• PHP version 5.2.4 or greater
• MySQL version 5.0 or greater

Automatic Installation

Automatic installation is the easiest option as WordPress handles the file transfers itself and you don’t even need to leave your web browser. To do an automatic install of SportsPress, log in to your WordPress admin panel, navigate to the Plugins menu and click Add New.

In the search field type “SportsPress” and click Search Plugins. Once you’ve found our sports plugin you can view details about it such as the point release, rating and description. Most importantly of course, you can install it by simply clicking Install Now. After clicking that link you will be asked if you’re sure you want to install the plugin. Click yes and WordPress will automatically complete the installation.

Manual Installation

The manual installation method involves downloading our sports plugin and uploading it to your webserver via your favorite FTP application.

1. Download the plugin file to your computer and unzip it
2. Using an FTP program, or your hosting control panel, upload the unzipped plugin folder to your WordPress installation’s wp-content/plugins/ directory.
3. Activate the plugin from the Plugins menu within the WordPress admin.

Upgrading

Automatic updates should work like a charm; as always though, ensure you backup your site just in case.

If on the off-chance you do encounter issues with the event/team/player/staff pages after an update you simply need to flush the permalinks by going to WordPress > Settings > Permalinks and hitting ‘save’. That should return things to normal.

FAQ

Which sports does this plugin support?

The plugin will support most team sports with a scoring system. You can customize the table columns and player statistics via SportsPress settings. We’ve included presets for commonly requested sports, and you can also add your own.

Will SportsPress work with my theme?

Yes; SportsPress will work with any theme, but may require some styling to make it match nicely.

Where can I report bugs or contribute to the project?

Bugs can be reported either in our support forum or preferably on the SportsPress GitHub repository.

Will SportsPress work with my sport?

The plugin comes preinstalled with several different sports presets to help you get started quickly, but is also flexible enough to be customized to fit the need of any team or individual sport. Please let us know if you’d like to work with us to get your preset added the plugin.

Can I import teams/players/staff/matches?

Yes, CSV importers are included with the plugin. Go to Tools > Import and choose from one of the SportsPress CSV importers. Supports CSV files generated by LeagueLobster.

What’s the difference between the free and Pro plugin?

SportsPress is a free plugin developed to give sports organizations the functionality needed to run a team, club, or league website. The plugin allows you to schedule your upcoming matches and enter the results after you’ve played a game. Your league tables, team and player statistics will automatically update once you’ve published the result to reflect the new standings.

Limitations? Don’t worry, there are no limitations to the number of events, players, staff members, teams, clubs, or leagues you can add to the free plugin.

SportsPress Pro is a premium plugin made for serious teams who are looking for additional sports functionality in their website. By upgrading to SportsPress Pro, you will be given instant access to a suite of sports modules that will appear in your dashboard.

A great sports league plugin!

I operate a house league website for a local hockey club. There are 8-divisions, 61-teams and this plugin manages the games, practices, and standings. I’ve run into a couple of issues because I use custom displays of the information, and each time support has been prompt, courteous, and helpful in assisting me in identifying the issue. I would highly recommend this plugin.

Great plugin, and support helped me figure out some weird formulas in no time. Thanks! Edit: the review above was before I was left hanging for weeks, and saw some of the other reviews. Product is great, but feels like a ghost town recently.

Superb plug-in

This used to be a superb, 5 star review. However things have changed. Their tournament part simply does not work properly. Last year I made a tournament for a city wide knockout competition. The plugin continuously put the losing team through to the next round instead of the winner. We realised this as the competition started which made us look ridiculous which was incredibly embarrassing to us it eventually got fixed after we abandoned the online tournament. onto this year. Again, made the tournament, competition started, turns out that NO TEAM gets put through. Again embarrassing for us. The only solution was to manually edit and put through the winners manually, which defeats the purpose of the plugins tournament section. Therefore, I can not recommend this plugin to anyone who is considering using the tournament part as it DOES NOT WORK. Perhaps once it is solved or they simply remove the tournament part as it seems they can’t get it to work correctly. So a 2 star review now due to this error being over 2 years old, still not fixed, and the embarrassment it has caused me.

Extremely bad support for pro version

13/9/24 – Support for this plugin continues to be NON EXISTENT for the paid version. I recommend to anyone NOT to buy this plugin. Despite numerous messages, no one responds. I have never experienced such bad support from any other developer. When I first complained, they did respond quickly but since then nothing! Support is extremely bad for the Pro version. I complained about the bad support and for a short while they were apologetic and responsive. After a couple of weeks they were once again very slow or did not reply to support requests. It seems that if you complain, they respond well for a short while, then they go back to being slow. There seems to be a total lack of care and concern for their customers. Now, I have still outstanding issues, with promises of responses but have received nothing. I have never dealt with any other developer/coder/brand that has such a high disregard for their customers. Themeboy seem to be con artists. I’ve purchased many premium themes and plugins and this is the first one I’ve had support issues with. Their showcase page here: https://www.themeboy.com/showcase/, at first glance looks good, however, most links are dead or show evidence that themeboy products are not being used. This page is clearly designed to mislead potential customers into buying products. 9/9/24 – I find I am once again having to leave a negative review because of the lack of support. I previously raised the same issue. Following my previous complaint, support improved but only for a short while. I am now finding I am just NOT receiving response to queries. When I first bought this plugin, I was looking forward to using it for several projects. However, I will never buy another licence or want to use it. Themeboy support is just made up of false promises and they seem to have no respect or regards for their customers. It is simply appalling. I have never known of any other plugin developer to be so bad. DON’T UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BUY THE PAID VERSION OF THIS PLUGIN. IT IS NOT DESERVING ON EVEN ONE STAR.
