Problems with the built in plugin installer

    I have a fresh installation of wordpress 2.7

    whenever i go to the add new plugins page, it doesnot show any popular tags in the bottom as it is showing in other sites

    moreover when i search for any plugin or click on any of the above options like, newest, popular, featured etc it shows an error like

    An Unexpected HTTP Error occured during the API request.

    try again

    my blog is hosted on byethost
    and i dont have any plugins active as it is a fresh installation

    what could be the problem and how to solve it, plzzzz reply ASAP
