    Hi,

I’m using WordPress 4.9.5 and recently logged into the website to find that I can’t set a featured image or search for plugins. Whenever I try to set a featured image, it opens the library and just sits there with the spinning wheel. Same thing whenever I try to search for a plugin.

    I’ve tried:

    – creating a debug log file to see what’s happening (only warning I see is PHP Warning: An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.ads-software.com) However I don’t know how that relates to not seeing the featured images.

    – Change the file permissions to 755 and 644
    – switch to a default theme and remove plugins
    – up the php memory limit on the config and my server
    – and tried to recreate the .htcaccess log.

Still nothing. Am I missing something?

Its using an Apache Webserver running on Ubuntu 14.04.

  • Hi @drewgcotech

From what I gather about the warning, it may be related to a connectivity issue with www.ads-software.com. Do you know if there are any current (security) blocks/ restrictions at your server/ host?

Here’s a helpful article you can explore that might help with the issue: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-secure-connection-error-in-wordpress/

    Hi @reneesoffice

Thanks for reply! the article did help fix my server connection and the error message. However I’m still having issues with new plugins and setting a featured image. ??

Well after a lot of time and struggle, I decided to move the website to another server/hosting company and it fixed the issue. So had to do with my server configuration. Unfortunately I don’t know what the cause was still. I’m thinking it had to do with the firewall or an older version of php/cURL that wasn’t compatible. Either way, glad its fixed.
