    Hi Jason,

I’m currently updating our site to make sure we are GDPR compliant in Europe before May, and I’m wondering whether there are plans to add functionality to the User Overview add on.

We currently use this to track an individuals path through the site and to see the documents they open in order to make suggestions. All of this we can cover off in our terms and conditions when they sign up, so not an issue. What is an issue is that GDPR requires that users can opt out of being tracked in this way if they wish to.

I will need to switch off this add on shortly, as we currently have no way of opting out individuals. But I wondered if you planned to update it in the future to make it compliant?

    Thanks

    Hi @salsabunny,

thank you for pointing this out. We are working on a feature that will display a message overlay (as a text box at the bottom of the viewport) with two buttons: one to accept and one to opt out. Given that different sites will want to engage their audiences in various ways, the message itself will be customizable, and might include links to custom terms and conditions, more information about GDPR and so on. You will also be able to customize the look and feel by adding a few lines of CSS to your theme.

Based on our current understanding of this new law, please note that as long as the hosting provider where you are storing the information collected by Slimstat is GDPR compliant, then you won’t have to worry about any extra layers of compliance offered by software like ours. The main goal of this new set of rules is to make sure data is stored in a safe and secure way. One of our primary goals is to make sure no vulnerabilities are present within our code, and guarantee that you and only you are the sole owner of the data collected by our plugin. This has always been what makes Slimstat stand out from the crowd: while Jetpack, Google Analytics and many other services have full unrestricted access to the data they collect on your website, we at Slimstat don’t treat our users as the “product” we sell to other companies.

Also, Slimstat already includes a feature to anonymize all the IP addresses that it collects and stores in the database, by hiding its last octet. By enabling this option in the settings, you should be in further compliance with the law.

Now, do YOU think this will be enough to comply with the upcoming GDPR guidelines?

    Best,
    Jason

    Hi all,

For those who feel brave enough to test the new features we are introducing, please feel free to download the corresponding branch from our Github repository at:

    https://github.com/slimstat/wp-slimstat/tree/gdpr-enhancements

This code is still not considered stable, however we would really appreciate your help in testing it! Also, please note that we might end up merging this branch into master in a few days. So, please check out the master branch if the link to this custom branch is not active.

    Best,
    Jason

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for the notes on this, and I am very excited to learn about the ability for individuals to opt in or opt out of the user specific analytics. My understanding of this law is that users must be allowed to opt in to any situation in where personal identifiable data will be used – IP address, email address, combination of other factors that could lead to being identified such as company name, job role etc. So the standard analytics from SlimStat are fairly safe, as the data is stored on the website itself (complying with the non export of EU data clause) and not externally, and the only identifiable data is the IP address which you can choose to remove. The rest, as I understand it, is aggregated and therefore not a direct problem for this law.

When it comes to the user overview add on, individual users being able to opt out of their data being tracked/included would cover this I believe. Is this your understanding too?

    Cheers,
    Sally

    Hi Sally,

thank you for your note. Yes, that is indeed our understanding of the upcoming GDPR guidelines as well. We’re happy to adjust the plugin’s behavior as needed, if it turns out that that’s not the case.

    Best,
    Jason

For me the most important is: why do you use a remote wp-slimstat.min.js?

That way every scanner and tracker hunter knows that I am using slimstat.

    Why not locally?

Forget it – found the setting…

Could it be I already complaint about this some days ago?

Damn, this f****** GDPR really drives me nuts.

    Hey @1manfactory,

we understand, the GDPR guidelines are really creating a lot of confusion around the web! You’re not alone ??

    Hi @coolmann,

For me the most important is: why do you use a remote wp-slimstat.min.js?

I also wonder this issue. How can I move it to local?

    Thank you in advance ??

This is only done for performance purposes. If it’s local, your web server will need to handle more traffic, to serve the page AND the tracker. However, if that’s not an issue for you, then you can change this behavior in the settings, and have the script loaded from your own server.

Slimstat Page view is not getting tracked. The number go down to zero. while checking settings I got two below errors, but i have not changed any filter settings in slimstat . Can any one help on this.

05-14-18 03:34 pm] 205 Your MaxMind data file is invalid. Please uninstall it using the button in Settings > Maintenance.
The information here above is useful to troubleshoot issues with the tracker. Errors are returned when the tracker could not record a page view for some reason, and are indicative of some kind of malfunction. Please include the message here above when sending a support request.
Tracker Notice [06-27-18 11:26 am] 310 Bot not tracked
The message here above will indicate if a page view was not recorded because it matched at least one of the conditions you configured in your settings (filters, blackslists, etc).

I have uninstalled geolite db and installed again still both error is there and page view tacking count is decreased zero

I didn’t get any reply on above error, can anyone help on the above ERROR

    Hi,
We asked about this problem some months ago, and we never got an answer.
We purchased the Export to Excel add on but it looks doesn’t work corrcetly, or, we are doing something wrong with it.
When we export the csv obtained has a maximum of only 1000 rows, when we have a lot more results.
How do we solve this? Or what are we doing wrong? We are new in slimstat.
    Thanks
