• I want to add destination urls to images and to my knowledge the only way to do that is through ‘attachment display settings’ but that feature has disappeared. I have the url of the image location (greyed-out) the fields for ‘titl’, ‘caption’, ‘alt text’ and ‘description’ under that should be attachment display settings where i can add a destination url but that section is missing. I have image category selections which are generated by a plugin I use but I dont think that would have removed the attachment display settings. Can anyone help ?

    I’m not too sure why you need to achieve this via the image properties. The destination of an linked image is something implemented by anchor tags, rather than anything related to the image.

    Im not talking about an image you can add in to a text box, thats easy. Im talking abut an image you add from the media library there is no where to put anchor text in there.

    Do you mean for text to display on the page? If you’re concerned about search engines and assistive technologies understanding the destination of the link; the alternative text is the link destination, i.e.:

    <a href="...destination">
        <img alt="Name of page (rather than description of image)" src="..." />
    </a>

    Hi Andrew, Im a layman so not sure what you mean about assitive technologies however, I’m confusing you about this link thing. I know how to add a link but there is no where to add this script. I would send you a screenshot but I dont think there is any way to do that in this forum

    Oh, you can upload an image to a sharing service like Imgur and then link it to us.

    I think the ‘URL’ field is something specific to either your theme or a plugin you’re using. This is because the featured image is not always linked in every theme, so it wouldn’t make sense for it to be setting that was introduced (or taken away) in WordPress core.

    To explore this, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
    – And on the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    Thanks Andrew
    I’m a bit nervous about that because when ive deleted plugins in the past its undone all my theme settings. Is this likely to do that ?

    Cheers

    Any update on this? I also want to use the previously available “Attachment Display Settings” so that images do not pop up to full size when user clicks on them. It also makes an annoying red box appear when the mouse scrolls over an image. How can I achieve this without the “Attachment Display Settings”? Thanks.
