custom-slugs.php

I am using the snippet at https://github.com/simpliko/wpadverts-snippets/blob/master/custom-slugs/custom-slugs.php to change advert to ad. I have continuously flushed my permalinks but it does not work on the single listing. It shows the correct structure when I hover over the link but it will not click to the page. I have it set to plain permalinks while waiting on your response, because it is the only one that works for me with the snippet activated. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or not, but would appreciate any help. Thank you
