    maybe another style is overwriting it, try adding the !important keyword example:

    background-color:red !important;

    Last question: How can I disable the theme altogether and use a different one?

    Hello!

    Sorry unfortunately that is not possible the bootstrap theme is used heavily to make the form responsive and there is no way to disable it.
