• Hi,

I have a live website, say MyCurrentWebsite.com – fairly basic, but functional and live.

I built MyCurrentWebsite.com sometime back, and I am keen on revamping it, but without jeopardizing the existing MyCurrentWebsite.com . Ideally, I was wondering, if I could do this:
    (a) Build a new website, say MyNewWebsite.com .
    (b) “Back up” MyCurrentWebsite.com
    (b) Transfer the contents of MyNewWebsite.com to MyCurrentWebsite.com. If anything goes wrong, I would like to able to “restore” MyCurrentWebsite.com from the “backed up” version.

At this stage, I have only one domain registered, MyCurrentWebsite.com, and I am with Bluehost at the moment.

My conceptual plan looks logical to me, but I am not sure how to actually implement it.

    My questions:
    – For (a), one way, I understand is to register a new domain MyCurrentWebsite.com, and build a website for it. Is this the only possibility ?
    – For (b), I haven’t a clue what would this would entail.
    – For (c), again, I am not sure what options are available.

Apologies if this post is not in the right forum.

    Thanks.
    WF

  • You can set sub-domain with your host via cPanel like development.mycurrentwebsite.com. Then copy the wordpress install over and work on there without affecting the live site.

(Contact your host for help with setting up subdomain if you need it. Usually cPanel makes it pretty easy.)

Thanks, Janet. I will research this option. Might come back if I get stuck again.
