• I’m having trouble getting my Media Library to recognize files that are in my wp-content/uploads folder.

I have a new WordPress blog hosted at A Small Orange (not sure that’s relevant, but the point is it’s hosted externally). I had two .mp3 files that were too large to upload to the Media Library via the WordPress CMS. So I FTP’d them to the wp-content/uploads folder… but the Media Library page in the WP control panel doesn’t recognize that they’re there.

Is there something I’m doing wrong? I’d have simply uploaded the files via the WordPress CMS, but I got the “filesize exceeded” alert (they’re each about 7.5 MB). Any suggestions as to how I can address this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Taken care of, nevermind.

Yeah but.. how? How did you fix it? I’m wondering the same thing, because it seems to me I’d done just that with WP 2.5, but it doesn’t work anymore?

Yes, please! Tell us how you “took care of it”. I have a whole set of files I’d like not to have to re-upload (they are from a conversion and already in the uploads directory under their proper year and month). Is there any automagic way to populate the media library db from the files that are not currently registered there?

Seems like there must be something… although I’ve seen a few posts and people have mentioned fixing it and getting around it, but they never seem to leave their methods for a clueless blogger like me!

    Help!

Ok, I found a plugin called “Add from server” which allows me to add files from the server to the media library! Thank you for this plugin!

I came here with the same problem and I wanted to express my interest in finding a solution. Will check out that plugin…
