My site is a community theatre where the front page images change every week or so. I’d love to share the website over Facebook but my latest attempt to do this showed an image that was two months old. There is no information in the documentation on how to correct this save one short posts that says it can take 30-50 days for Facebook to recognize a new image. This makes this plugin laughably useless.

I’ve tried scraping the image over and over again. No change. Is there any way to simply share a page with Facebook and have an accurate image come up or should I look elsewhere? Is there another plugin that actually works.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

A plugin will not help you — you cannot *force* Facebook to refresh it’s cache if there are existing shares / likes for that URL. If you want to share different content, you need to share a different URL.

    https://wpsso.com/docs/plugins/wpsso/faqs/why-does-facebook-show-the-wrong-image-text/

The first time Facebook accesses your webpage, it will cache the image and text it finds in the webpage Open Graph meta tags. Facebook then prefers to use that cached information until it has expired — which can take up to 30 days, unless 50 actions (likes, shares and comments) have been associated with a URL, in which case its title can never been refreshed.

Thanks for your quick reply. It seems the only workaround is to create a “new” page which has the same content as the “front” page? In other words, same content, different URL?

That would work for Facebook and other social sites, but would be fatal to your Google search ranking – Google really does not like duplicate content. You would have to make sure those duplicate pages have a “canonical” meta tag to the original page URL, but most browsers (and social crawlers) follow the “canonical” meta tag anyway, defeating the purpose of having a duplicate page. ??
