xmlrpc.php?rsd exceptionally slow

I’m working on starting up my blog again and have just upgraded to WordPress 2.7.1. I’ve also downloaded the iPhone app, but I’m having trouble setting up my blog on it. It looks like xmlrpc.php?rsd responds really slowly and the app times out looking for a response from it.
Performance elsewhere on my blog seems fine to me and I’ve tried everything I could think of to get it working.
