• In a previous thread a very helpful member of this forum gave me advice on moving wordpress to another directory on my server.

The advice was to backup wordpress from the original directory, then re-upload to the new directory, then finally open up phpMyAdmin and change the site URL(s).

However, the wordpress codex states to change the URLs in the general settings of your wordpress install (not phpMyAdmin) BEFORE moving the files to the new directory. further, it emphasizes that this is a must.

I’m thinking that if I change the URLs at the database level via phpMyAdmin, then it doesn’t really matter whether I change them before or after I move the files. Am I correct?

    Thanks!

    yes – that is correct.
If you change them in wp admin 1st, though, you don’t have to mess with phpmyadmin,
    up to you
