You can do everything except for the user opt-out part. This will be coming as a premium add-on in a month or two as part of my work towards making BNFW more GDPR-friendly.

I though at least I could already do it with the Conditional Notifications Add-on.
Like, I already use Ultimate Member for its specific functionalities.
I can add a checkbox field on the registration page (to opt-in by default), the same on the profile page (to opt-out whenever the user wants) and I thought Conditional Notifications Add-on could use this field to send the notification only to users who have not opt-out.

Could it work?

Full support for user opt-in/opt-out is coming and is being worked on at the moment.

Like custom fields from ACF or Ultimate Member, or will it be proprietary Better Notifications custom fields?

The opt-in/opt-out will apply just to BNFW as I’ve found most users use the plugin for the majority of their email notifications within WordPress.

So it’s the opt-in/opt-out new plugin that will be able to add custom fields on registration and profile forms, correct?

I can’t go into specifics at the moment as the details are being worked out in development however, BNFW will be added a selection of tick boxes for various notifications that will allow a user to opt in or out from their profile.

If you need to add custom fields to a user’s profile, you may want to look at something like Profile Builder, which BNFW also can provide support for using this add-on.

No, no, when I talked about custom fields, I was of course refering to the checkboxes allowing to opt-in/opt-out for the notifications.

A good question. Currently, i’m just working towards making them accessible to users via the front-end or back-end but i’ll add that to the roadmap.
