• Hi

We have recently migrated to wordpress.com blog to a www.ads-software.com hosted site with the Elara theme and really excited about how it’s coming along.
My blog partner Kanika and I are new to building a website and would really appreciate some help! ??

    We have the following questions:

-We can’t see the a live preview when we’re customising the theme. Is there something we’re missing? We usually make changes, publish and then visit the site to see them.

-Can we change the dimensions of the Post Slider? We don’t want to edit the original featured images of our posts. Some featured images are vertical so the post slider looks really huge.

-In case we use a Header instead of a Post Slider on the front page, how can we ensure it stretches till the sidebar and the sidebar widgets start after the Header.

-Is there a way to add a bar/grey box (like the one we have for pagination of the blog post)? We want to add it between the featured posts and the Instagram feed. So far, we both have been taking some css codes from the Elara support page (Thanks Guys!) but sometimes struggle to figure out the position of certain widgets. The space between the blog feed and the Instagram feed is where we want to add the bar.

-How do we get the Roll over image ( shown as Hello World! in your theme preview)? Opted to show it in the Front Page menu but it is not visible.

    Thanks a lot!

Thanks for trying out Elara, we appreciate it!

-We can’t see the a live preview when we’re customising the theme. Is there something we’re missing? We usually make changes, publish and then visit the site to see them.

I am not sure why this may be happening. Can you please send us more details via https://www.lyrathemes.com/support/ and we’d be happy to take a look.

-Can we change the dimensions of the Post Slider? We don’t want to edit the original featured images of our posts. Some featured images are vertical so the post slider looks really huge.

If you’re moving from another theme to Elara, you may need to regenerate your images to match the required image dimensions for Elara. More information on how to do that can be found here: https://help.lyrathemes.com/article/207-how-to-fix-uneven-images The slider images need to be at least 1470 x 680 and if you upload an image larger than that, the theme will automatically resize it to the right size for the slider.

-In case we use a Header instead of a Post Slider on the front page, how can we ensure it stretches till the sidebar and the sidebar widgets start after the Header.

Looks like you’re currently using the option to show the sidebar next to the banner/slider: https://demo.lyrathemes.com/elara/?demo=home-sidebar-top Go to Appearance > Customize > Front Page > Sidebar and change the position of the sidebar from Top to Bottom: https://help.lyrathemes.com/article/92-front-page-sidebar

The space between the blog feed and the Instagram feed is where we want to add the bar.

Can you please elaborate on what that bar would contain? Some text? Images? I would suggest adding a Text Widget right above the Instagram Widget and then we can help you customize/style it.

-How do we get the Roll over image ( shown as Hello World! in your theme preview)? Opted to show it in the Front Page menu but it is not visible.

Sorry, I am a bit confused here, which roll over image are you referencing? Do you mean the large highlight post near the end of the front page? See this for more details: https://help.lyrathemes.com/article/90-highlight-post

Thank you so much for your response!

We fixed the live preview problem. We can see the live preview in Customize now!
It wasn’t something related to your theme, we were accessing our site through a web tool (host file) provided through our hosting provider and had not modified our local host file! Like I mentioned earlier we new to building websites! (Putting this info here so that it helps other people who are new to this)

Have installed Regenerate Thumbnails. So that’s sorted!

I guess the Front Page Sidebar changes can only be changed in the theme’s pro version.

Yes the roll over image I was referring to was the Highlight post. Managed to get that too. Thanks!

I’ve decided against using a bar for now. Instead, can you help me change the spacing at the bottom of the front page– between the instagram widget and the contact form. They are too close to each other as of now.

My next question is about adding a link to the homepage in the header image (widget)? When I go to a post page, the header image does not link to the home page.

Also, the link to our website is https://kitchenpostcards.com/

    Thanks a ton!

    Hi Sakshi,

can you help me change the spacing at the bottom of the front page– between the instagram widget and the contact form. They are too close to each other as of now.

Can you send me some screenshot of this space between Instagram and contact form. I’ve had a look at this: https://kitchenpostcards.com/ and couldn’t find it.

My next question is about adding a link to the homepage in the header image (widget)? When I go to a post page, the header image does not link to the home page.

I would highly recommend to use logo image option under Appearance → Customize → Site Identity section. This would add link to homepage by default. If you want to use image in widget please use this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/image-widget/ which allows you to add link to image.

    Kind regards
