• Hi,

Today, I implemented the Nisarg update that was available in my site dashboard.

As a result, I am no longer able to view my sites (surinametraveltips.com and nl.surinametraveltips.com).
I am not able to visit the site, do not get a preview of the post I am writing, nor can I access the sites from a browser. I was using Nisarg with a child theme.

Site Support confirmed that this problem pertains to the update combined with the child theme, and advised me to switch themes. This is not what I want, since I had had to switch themes before and I have put a lot of effort into getting my sites where they are today.

Is it not possible at all to get the child theme to work with the update?

    Could you please help out?

    Sincerely,
    Audrey

  • the dreaded “White Screen of Death”

If you can access your site files via FTP, go into wp-content/plugins

rename every folder ( I just put a “z” at the beginning of every folder name)

This disconnects your install from the plugins.

Did the site come back up?

If so, one of the plugins is not working with the theme anymore.

Start removing the “z” from the folder names until you find the offending plugin.

Delete that plugin and go back to normal.

That is, if your problem is the same that mine was…

    Hello @alasani,

To find out what causes the screen of death on your site, you can install and activate debug bar plugin. Upon activation it will display errors. Once you find the culprit you can deactivate the debut bar plugin.

@mrkenray – Tnx so much for responding!

I would be happy to try your suggestion. Just how to access my files through FTP??

Can you offer any steps that I could use to get there? (I work with Leech, an FTP client.)

    Cheers,
    Audrey

    Hi @falgunihdesai,

Thank you much for your advice.

I have installed and activated Debug Bar. I am not sure if it has done any debugging yet – it says something about Deprecated and Object Cache. Is this what I am looking for? I really do not know how to read this.

I made a screenshot of the Debug screens. Would you have a look at them? I do not see an option for attachments; is there a way to send you the screenshots?

    Thanks,
    Audrey

according to whois.net, your files reside at:

    Name Server: NS1.MYWAHOSTING.COM

according to whois.net, your registrar of record is:

    Registrar URL: https://www.enom.com

one of those two companies should be able to provide you with an admin user name and password to access your site files via FTP.

once you are logged in, you will see three folders:

    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes

    open wp-content
    open the folder “plugins”
    start renaming the folders within
or simply add the letter z to the name of the plugins folder itself, rendering all plugin files inaccessible to wordpress.

    did your site come back?
