Work on console errors?
-
Hi there,
You should be able to debug console errors you’re getting (so you can see what plugin they’re coming from, or which plugins conflict to cause that console error)
Detective Otto will help you activate different combinations of plugins, you just need to look at the console for errors and tell him if it’s “fixed” (no console errors) or “broken” (you still see console errors) and he should help you narrow it down.
Let us know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
NathanWell, the reason I ask is because this console error happens in the admin area, but it happens on a popup window. So in other words, I have to click a button to trigger the console error. I’ve determined which plugin caused the problem by going through the regular routine of deactivating one at a time. But I’ll go ahead and try your plugin and see if it comes up with the answer as well. Will let you know.
You should be able to click around to trigger the error during each “interrogation” step. You can even open up your site in a new browser window and do any testing you need to, and then go back to your Plugin Detective window to tell Otto whether it’s Fixed or Broken
Hopefully it comes back with the same answer!
Best,
NathanHmm well it doesn’t look like the plugin is working at all. It’s stuck on the “getting your site” loading screen. And it seems there is a console error:
Mixed Content: The page at ‘https://www.xxxxx.com/staging/wp-content/plugins/plugin-detective/troubleshoot/?session=2&nonce=d6c9072d2d#/find-the-problem’ was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure resource ‘https://www.xxxxx.com/staging/’. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
I think I need a plugin detective for plugin detective! ??
I’ve not seen that happen, I suspect that your “site url” is with http but maybe your admin area is https.
I’ll look into that issue and get a message back to you here today
Thanks,
NathanNo, my site is https, it’s just a staging site, in a subdirectory under the main site
Thanks, I’ll check a few things on this end to see what I can find
Ok, let me know if you want access to my staging site to see about troubleshooting the problem
That would actually be quite helpful, and then I can make sure it works on your site before we message you back ?? Please send access info to [email protected] and I’ll test out fixes on your site
Thanks,
NathanI just tried it again for the heck of it and it worked, AND it found the same culprit that I did, AND much faster than I could find it! Awesome! I’ll go ahead and send the info to you anyways so perhaps you can regenerate the problem. This plugin is amazing!
Awesome! We’re just getting started with the plugin and would love a review to help others find Plugin Detective if you have a minute:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/plugin-detective/reviews/And just a reminder, if you leave Plugin Detective installed, if your site ever crashes with a white screen, you can still run Plugin Detective so you can get it back up and running quickly!
I’ll definitely check out your staging site as well to see if I’m able to reproduce the issue.
Thanks,
NathanEmail sent, and I will add a review too. I will also try to get Adam of WPCrafter to make a Youtube review of the plugin.
How can you run the plugin if you have the white screen?
We have a quick video that shows this process, and we’re going to add more examples to the Read Me:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/274t2hg7xcih7g1/whitescreen-fix.mp4?dl=0Essentially, if you have Plugin Detective installed, you can navigate directly to
wp-content/plugin/plugin-detective/troubleshoot/and Plugin Detective will still run even if your site is down ??
Interesting, I just tried that, logged in and it seems going that route threw up that console error too. So it seems intermittent. Anyhow, let me know what you find, thanks!
Will do!
