New Blog – Website Style

I’m also aiming to build a website (rather than blog) style site from scratch with wordpress.
I’d apreciate any pointers you might have as to how to get started (links to documentation etc..) coz I seem to be going round in circles at the moment !

how do you a blog as a main menu item on the nav bar, where all posts are seen when you click on the blog menu link?
