Fatal error: Class ‘PHPMailer’ not found

  • Wordpress 4.9.6 multisite, Gmail SMTP 1.1.7, php 7.1

    Fatal error: Class 'PHPMailer' not found in .../public_html/wp-content/plugins/gmail-smtp/class.phpmaileroauth.php

    I know that there is new PHPmailer dealing with autoload
    (see https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer)

    What is the preferred way to resolve this issue?
