    Hi.
Usually, setting a post to noindex will remove it from the generated XML sitemaps. In your kb entry “How to exclude posts / pages from the sitemap” it is explained how to remove a post / page from the sitemap while not setting noindex.

Is it possible to do the exact opposite? Adding a page / post to the sitemap although it is set to noindex. That’s a very special case and it’s about one single page, so I’d be perfectly fine to add a filter or something similar to my child theme’s functions.php ??

    Cheers

Unfortunately, this is something that isn’t possible as there’s no point of adding a post or page to XML sitemap which is set to noindex. When Google crawler finds an URL in the sitemap that is set to noindex, it will show you an error in the Google Search Console.

I understand and accept that there’s no way to do this.
But I’d argue against the absolute “there’s no point”. What I want is a page that is not linked to from anywhere but is still listed in the sitemap for Google to be found. I dont want this page’s content to be indexed but the links to be folowed. Would it work if I manually added a meta tag in the content? Does Google honor that?

Well, and I know this all sounds fishy ?? I’m not trying to create a link farm or anything but am unfortunately not at liberty to discuss details.

While we are unable to confirm whether what Google will honor, we do know that you can add any meta tags manually if you’d like.
