Please help I am very confused, and a bit worried….. I have just installed 7.7 Previously I looked at the snippets and it contained the first few words of the page, which I optimised on the page to create a compelling message.

Since upgrading these snippets have disappeared. Now all I get is

“Please provide a meta description by editing the snippet below…. if you don’t google will fine a relevant part”. Yet I have put in snippets and these seem to have disappeared.

I have checked the dashboard/features and all the options are enabled. I feel I have lost a load of work that I need to replicate over 350 posts and pages.

Have I missed some “Feature upgrade”? Has something gone wrong? I am using Divi, if that makes a difference. WordPress 4.9.6.

By the way I am in a development environment (a test site) so i have blocked access to robots, but it has been like that for a while and snippets always appeared previously.

Please help – I am very confused.

It is across the whole site… not just one page.

From Yoast SEO v7.7, it will show you the message you are seeing instead of actually show you the first part of your content in the snippet preview. You can prevent this by adding the meta description manually or add the %excerpt snippet variable to either on the page level or from the Yoast SEO -> Search Appearance -> Content Types -> Meta description fields.
