What is the purpose of the “Reset UM Role meta” link

Using “Reset UM Role meta” you can reset UM meta and reset all capabilities.

Agreed. Not really sure what this “feature” is for. I upgraded to the newest version and some of my roles now have that option and some don’t.

I agree also. More explanation of this is needed. After upgrading to version 2 I had 2 user roles (Subscriber and Member) So this is very confusing to say the least.

Reset Role Meta just rolls back the changes made of any role to the default settings. For example, go to Ultimate Member->User Roles->Subscriber->Edit and make some changes to the role settings. Reset this role meta and you will see your changes are removed and role settings goes back to default settings. Hope it’s clear.
