Age gate Shows on Every Page

  • Age Gate appears on every single page after I confirmed age. Seems like cookies are not working
    – I have set to Java Script Version since I have cache on this server (WPENGINE)
    – I have set to all content – Still appears everytime I click a new link.
    – I have set to Selected Content -I made only home page age verified. Still appears everytime I click a new link.
    -Set remember length to 3 days

    I cleared cache every single time on computer and server.

    Please help. Thank you

    Update: I have the restrict to select content selected –> Only home page is set to Age Gate

    Hi @tri_media,

    Firstly, sorry you’re having issues.

    I’ve looked at this a couple of times since you posted and see you’ve changed some of the settings which is useful as I can see it’s still happening in different modes.

    I can’t see any reason for this not working though. I can see the cookie is being set but it doesn’t seem to be being read by the plugin. If I add a version of the cookie reader into the console I can still read it which is really odd.

    There’s a couple of things I’d try as I’m really stumped on it.

    First option would be to delete the plugin, clear the caches and reinstall it from scratch to see if that helps. Not sure why it would, but you never know.

    Failing that, I did notice on one of the loads I was getting console errors about duplicate IDs. Again this shouldn’t really affect reading a cookie, but the below beta of 2.1.0 fixes that issue (along with some other bits). You’re welcome to try that and see if it fixes it. There are some changes in there that will need caches to be cleared too.

    I’ve not seen this happen in JavaScript mode before, even with caching on so it’s a really strange scenario.

    Hey Phil the new dev plugin didnt work… But it 100% is a cache issue.
    The wp guys are asking what is the cookie or argument so they can exclude it. Can you please provide that?

    Oh that’s pretty aggressive caching then if even JS doesn’t read the cookie. I did read that calling via AJAX can be a solution but that would have performance issues, though probably quite minor.

    The possible cookies age gate sets are age_gate which sets when a user passes the challenge and age_gate_failed which is used is the rechallenge checkbox is unselected.

    Let me know if WPEngine excluding those works and if not I’ll look at the additional AJAX call I saw while googling around for the answer
