• Hey,
Loving the plugin – but having issues with getting webp images to actually be shown. (Testing on Chrome/Opera)

Does this plugin only automate the issuing of webp if you’re using optimus?
We use Shortpixel, which also offers Webp – but it doesn’t get picked up by this plugin.

Kind regards & thanks in advance!

  • Are your WebP images accessible via .webp or .png.webp? We’ve seen the second scenario come up before which isn’t compatible with Cache Enabler. Images need to end in .webp in order to be delivered properly by Cache Enabler.

Thanks for getting back to me!

It creates .webp images – but they’ll only displayed if I select; Generate WebP markup (within the Shortpixel plugin itself)

Each will be replaced with a <picture> tag that will also provide the WebP image as a choice for browsers that support it. Also loads the picturefill.js for browsers that don’t support the <picture> tag. You don’t need to activate this if you’re using the Cache Enabler plugin because your WebP images are already handled by this plugin. Please make a test before using this option, as if the styles that your theme is using rely on the position of your tag, you might experience display problems.

It says it should work with cache plugin – but if this selection isn’t active, then nothing happens sitewide with webp!

I just tested this on a site running one of the default WordPress themes and it works. Have you tried disabling other plugins and reverting to a default theme to see whether or not there is a conflict somewhere in your setup?

I haven’t tested that yet – I’ll attempt that tomorrow morning.
So without activating the <Picture> tag – the Caching plugin replacing images to .webp?

    That’s strange.

I’ll strip everything out and work from the start again to see what’s wrong – Thanks for your help so far!

Correct, without enabling the <picture> tag Cache Enabler replaces the images with .webp.

I just tried it again – And it’s not working. Maybe it’s a theme Issue?
I’m currently using Salient (ThemeNectar) I’ve setup a test page on a brand new installation with only images on the page

    You can see it here:

I just checked the site and it shows .webp for me. Did you ensure you were logged out so that you would receive Cache Enabler’s cached version?

I looked into this more closely as i have the same setup. I’m using CE with Shortpixel.

My images do display as .webp. So that’s working correctly.

But I just discovered an issue with Cloudflare.

When an uncached page is visited by Edge and then the cache is generated, if i visit the now cached page with Chrome, then .jpeg images are displayed and not .webp.

I have cache everything enabled in CF. So html is cached.

    Any ideas what’s going on?
