Can’t access dashboard after latest Elementor update Error 500
-
So this morning I logged onto the dashboard for my site and noticed several of my plugins required updating, including Elementor among 4 others. Elementor was the first to update however the following plugins displayed a red error message. I closed the page and tried re-entering, but I cant even get onto the log-on to my dashboard. Earlier it displayed an error 500 message, but now it just comes up as a blank screen.
My site appears to be working on desktop, but not anymore on mobile.
So it seems the Elementor update has somehow corrupted my website? What can I do, I can’t even access the dashboard at this point?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
First of all, my compliments on your site, looking good!
This often happens when multiple plugins are trying to get updated at the same time. In most cases, deactivating all plugins, will let you log in again in your site.
As you can no longer access your admin dashboard, you will need to do this using your cPanel or FTP client.
I think this article and video will be very helpfull:
https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-the-internal-server-error-in-wordpress/PS. This does not have to be an Elementor issue at all.
Hope this helps,
Annie-

Hello,
Thankyou for the reply and the compliment, it’s my first attempt at a website on wordpress and was certainly a learning curve!
Yes, I have downloaded Filezilla to follow the instructions, though at the minute our host provided 123 reg are looking into the issue for me to see if they can fix it.
The last thing I want to do is make matters worse with poor/naive attempts at coding to fix the issue!!
Thanks Annie
Hello,
You’re welcome!
I really love the colour scheme etc of the site, gives it that ” classy style”!Hope your host can fix it soon,
AnnieHello again,
An update with this – the problem is definitely with Elementor. We had to remove the plugin via FTP, as such we have lost all our format on our website ??
We were able to get back into the dashboard after removing it, however as soon as we download Elementor, we get this message, and we are back to square one, unable to access dashboard.
https://www.alba-interiors.uk is currently unable to handle this request.
HTTP ERROR 500Do you know why this is happening to our site? Its so frustrating as I spent months building the website with Elementor and had no problems at all, it was only when I updated the plugin on Monday that this all started happening?
I fear having to restart and build the website again from scratch with another plugin – any guidance would be welcome.
Thanks.
Hello,
This can be very frustrating indeed!
First of all, I am not a team member of Elementor, just a volunteer trying to help.
I run 50+ sites with Elementor + OceanWP and do not have this issue.Although the issue goes away as soon as Elementor is out of the picture, does not mean this could not be triggerd by for example the current php version on your hosting and/or some conflict with a third party plugin.
For now, I suggest you revert back to the previous version of Elementor, the one that did not have this issue. This way you are able to log in and your site looks good.
As soon as that is achieved, I advice to take a backup ( with for example all in one migration plugin ) and migrate that backup into a subfolder, where you can test things until you find the real cullprit.
Normally you can easely roll back to a previous version, while logged in to your dashboard in Elementor settings. In your case that is not possible now.
PLease download the previous version here:
https://nl.www.ads-software.com/plugins/elementor/advanced/Then upload it using FTP or cPanel at your host and overwrite the elementor folder in wp-content/plugins.
This way your site will have the older version and should not have this issue, if I understand correctly, this only happened after the most recent update of Elementor?
What is needed too ( to try and help as much as possible ) is for you to follow these steps and post it here so we can evaluate your hosts settings etc:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/please-read-before-you-post-an-issue/
Did you check or ask your host what php version is used, memory limit etc?
See: https://docs.elementor.com/article/38-requirementsPHP 7 or Greater
Note: If your site is hosted on a server with an older PHP, you may experience issues. We recommend you to contact your hosting provider to upgrade to the latest version of PHP.Elementor also works with PHP 5.4+, but these older versions have reached official End Of Life and as such may expose your site to security vulnerabilities and bugs.
MySQL 5.6 or Greater
MySQL version 5.6 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.0 or greaterWP Memory Limit
WP Memory limit of 64 MB or greater (128 MB or higher is preferred)For further reading check here
Browsers
Please note that you can use Elementor with Safari, Chrome and Firefox. You will not be able to edit with Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Internet Explorer. In any case, pages built with Elementor will show up in all the browsers.
Servers
If your website is hosted by WP Engine, you might need to add an SSL to your website to avoid saving issues. If you use SiteGround, make sure that they modify the SubstituteMaxLineLength of your server for you: https://docs.elementor.com/article/219-502-error-when-i-try-to-edit-with-elementor
Hello,
Thankyou so much for the guidance. We have reinstalled the previous version of elementor as you suggested and it is back to working fine now!
As a note, at what point do we go about updating elementor, as surely we have to keep up with the new versions for compatibility reasons?
Again, thankyou!
Glad things are back to normal for now.
I would strongly advise, if you are not doing this already, now that you are back in, take at least one backup of your site. I love this free plugin:
https://nl.www.ads-software.com/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/ On that page if you scroll down about, there is a video that explains how to use it, it is one of the most easy to use backup and migration plugins, in my opinion, and works like a charme every time I use it ( and I use it a lot haha )This is a really must have, issues or not. It is the difference between maybe even having to rebuild a site from scratch or just being able to revert back to a previous installation and saving all your hard work.
I would like very much to know the answers to my previous questions, because you will need to update at some point, so we need to find out what is causing this.
Did you check or ask your host what php version is used, memory limit etc?

I notice you have posted the same issue on this forum:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/elementor-update-has-crashed-my-site-help/#post-10486731I suggest keeping it on this post, otherwise it gets confusing?
There you let us know the plugins that you use:
Further to this, I thought maybe it might be a case of the update clashing with another of my plugins? My site uses the following plugins as well, if that sheds any light at all?
Call now button
EWWW image optimiser
GDPR consent cookie
Google analytics
Elementor header/footer
Instagram feed
Mysticky Menu
Ocean Demo Import
Ocean extra
Smart slider 3
Yoast SEO
WP Forms
WP anchorThat’s it I think.
To find the culprit you need to deactivate them all and the start activating them one by one to see when the issue starts happening again if Elementor is active too.
Please first answer the questons above about the php version etc and post the result in this topic only please.
Annie
I have PHP version 7.2, PHP and WordPress memory limit is 512M, MySQL Server version: 5.6.39. SSL installed. I am having the same “Upgraded Elementor but now I am not able to access dashboard” problem, and had to deactivate plugin from in File Manager to get into dashboard again. Thankfully, the site is still in development. Please advise.
Hello everyone,
my problem is when I try to edit the WP pages with the Elementor plugin, it starts uploading and then it gives an error “internal server error 500” I also see in the error_log the following error
(PHP Deprecated: Automatically populating $HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA is deprecated and will be removed in a future version. To avoid this warning set ‘always_populate_raw_post_data’ to ‘-1’ in php.ini and use the php://input stream instead. in Unknown on line 0) I have no solution to this problem, because I have not sufficient knowledge of programming. I hope you can help me solve the error. Thank you for your attention!
best regards
