Change of Domain Name

  • Hello,

    My current domain is https://www.neonproject.com.sg, and i wish to change to a new domain https://www.neonprojectstudio.com (the webpages will remain the same)

    I owned both domain and already did DNS to my hosting account.

    I’m not sure how to go about it and just changed the domain name under the “Setting page” “WordPress Address (URL) and “Site Address(URL)” to my new domain – neonprojectstudio.com

    And i cant log in to my wordpress admin page anymore, and got a 500 Internal Server Error. How do i go about solving this issue?

  • Check out https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress for documentation on how to move WordPress (including changing domains). After changing the address and site address, you’ll need to run a script across the database to update URL’s across the site to match the new domain (actually do that first before changing the address/site address).

    As you’re now seeing a server 500 error, take a look at: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL and see if one of those steps can help you access the WordPress admin to fix things.

    You may also need to clear out or reset your .htaccess/web.config/nginx directives for your site to make sure the server redirects requests correctly. Check with your hosting for more info/support.
