• Hello!

I want to shift from using my Godaddy managed wordpress to build my website to building it on my computer offline.

Here are the things I need help with:

    1. I followed a tutorial online to set this up, but there was an issue with connectivity. Can someone point me in the direction of an easy to follow tutorial with no missing steps for a newb?

    2. Is it possible for me to transfer the work I’ve done on my website already to my computer? I do have access to the cpanel through wordpress. This includes the theme I have as well as all of the add-ons.

That’s all for now. Please help. I’m racing the clock until I’m charged for another month of fees from Godaddy! Thanks!

    Hi!

I want to shift from using my Godaddy managed wordpress to build my website to building it on my computer offline.

    Awesome!

I followed a tutorial online to set this up

What tutorial did you follow? I ask only because there are quite a few tutorials and they all use a different method.

Is it possible for me to transfer the work I’ve done on my website already to my computer

Yes, there are actually quite a few plugins that can help with this. Two that come to mind are duplicator and the other is migrate db.

If you really are looking into hosting the site on your computer I would recommend reading this article on that. There are pros and cons to a lot of things.

Thanks! I’m not at the point of wanting to host on my computer, but I just don’t see the point of paying the monthly fee for godaddy hosting when I’m not even ready to publish the site. The tutorial was on youtube. Do you have any that you would suggest? Thank you for your input!

I was able to create a backup of my site with godaddy and upload it remotely. Now here is my issue…

I created a new wordpress login, but when I imported the other site it changed it over to the godaddy site completely. Now when I attempt to go to localhost/mynewwebsite it doesn’t work. Instead, it is linked up with my hosted site. Does that make sense?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, makes perfect sense. This almost sounds like the database entry for the home and site URL may need to be updated on your local installation. There are a few ways of doing that and this will vary by how your local installation was installed. Some will have the ability to edit the database using a tool like phpMyAdmin and some will allow for command line tools.

I suggest looking over the codex page for changing the url to get a better idea on some of those options as well.

I’m really lost:( can you be more specific about what I need to change? I’m new to all of this.

    Thank you for your patience!
