I recently installed 2.7 through a WordPress install link on my web host’s site. There wasn’t much to it. I just typed in the name of the install directory (wordpress) on the form they provided and clicked the button. That was it. I haven’t modified the basic installation at all yet (it was only 2 weeks ago) so if I muck up the upgrade to 2.7.1 it’s no big deal. Still, it would be gratifying as well as educational to get it right.

I notice in reading the upgrade info at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended that under Delete these Files and Folders it says to delete, among other things, a file named wp.php. As near as I can tell, there is no such file. There are a number of files of the general form wp-something_or_other.php, but no wp.php. Is wp.php just a sort of abbreviation referring to all files of the wp-something_or_other.php form or is there actually one specific file named wp.php that I should delete, and if there is such a specific file then why don’t I see it?

  • There is no wp.php in version 2.7 or 2.7.1. This file was in earlier versions and is to be deleted. I have made a note on the Codex that that file doesn’t exist in 2.7 and 2.7.1.
