I tried to log into WordPress a few times in one session as I was trying to remember my username and password. After this I tried to log into my Wordfence protected website but must have typed in the wrong username.

Now I am locked out and when I enter my email address a Cleantalk (which I also use) pop up comes on the screen telling me to install javcascript. I checked under my PC’s settings and javascript is already running on the system.

Is there a back door that I can use to gain entry to my site?

  • Hi,

    This may help you:
    https://www.wordfence.com/help/blocking/blocked-or-locked-out/#forcefully-regain-access-to-your-site

It’s a bit laborious, but it’s an option.

Keep a VPN service handy. Use when locked out or for pen testing. MTN

    Hi Sean,

We recommend using a password manager like 1password.com to store your username and password in case you forget them.

You can use the Wordfence documentation link the other user provided but there is a quicker method to use in the future as it is a brute force lock out.

    1) Rename the Wordfence directory using the example below:

    ~/wp-content/plugins/wordfence-disabled

    2) Login to WordPress.

    3) Rename the Wordfence directory as below:

    ~/wp-content/plugins/wordfence

    4) Reload your WordPress admin Dashboard page and the Wordfence menu items will now be available.

    5) Open the Blocking tab on the Firewall page and you can unblock your IP address.

If the Wordfence lock out page malfunctioned due to there being a CleanTalk plugin JavaScript error then that is something you will need to ask them for assistance with.

    Thank you.
