WP 4.9.8 has forced me to try Gutenberg. I have set up a staging site and am playing.

What’s so frustration is that the simple things like adding a right aligned medium image to a para seems impossible!

This is what you have as a FAQ for the “classic” editor: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Inserting_Images_into_Posts_and_Pages

Seems its pretty difficult with Gutenberg. With Mr Google’s help I discovered that the way to do it it add an image above the text block in Gutenberg. Then make the image right aligned and change size to Medium…. It appears now to right align and be medium sizes and for the text in the para to wrap around the image (captions seem to screw it up!). Now do a preview and what you get is a full sized image that sits above the text block….not a simple image aligned with top of para and right aligned with text flowing around the medium sized photo.

Such a a simple thing to do in the old version of the editor but so very convoluted to do in Gutenberg! ANd for me it does not work.

With such simple things not addressed – is Gutenberg really ready?

Note the page ref just shows a recent post with a right aligned image with text that wraps around…. This was what I was trying to replicate in Gutenberg.

    Hiya,

Unfortunately, alignments like the one you described relies on the theme in use having implemented the basic styling for alignments (in your case alignright), we’re re-using the ones that WordPress has been using for years to this extent and it appears to be working fine when I just double-checked it on my own site.

Have you tried making this kind of image insertion in the classic editor previously where it did work for you, if you have I’m a bit puzzled as it should work the same in both scenarios, but will happily troubleshoot it further with you if that is the case.

For info the thread on the Weaver forum:

I think this Gutenberg plugin is too buggy and am deleting it.

    Hi,

I’ve been able to replicate the problems you were experiencing a few times now, although it’s got some prerequisites to happen. I’ll make a ticket for it so we can look into it further and find a solution to this as we are already working on a few other image improvements as well.

Ok, I just came into the same problem. I added in most of my posts (not all) at the beginning a medium image (set to 300×300), left aligned… And with Gutenberg I can’t do it. Also, we don’t have (or not so easily) access to alt text, title, and classes in the post context as before… I had some css for those medium-sized images that can’t get to apply.

Yes, I could go and edit the code… but doing this for every post is not comfortable.

In general I am becoming comfortable with Gutenberg… but it needs still some functions that we had before.
