When adding images to a post, I’m assuming that “textual alternative” is where the alt description goes, at least that’s how it’s appearing in html. However, I can’t seem to figure out how to add a title, except in html. If I click on the pencil as was suggested in another thread and add/edit the title, that info doesn’t make it into the html. Am I missing something? Will a title field be added at some point?

Actually, the more I’m working with images the more problems I’m coming across. For example, if I edit the html of an image to add, say, data-pin-nopin=”nopin”, then I can no longer have this image as a block. Or rather, if I try to save it as a block the html I added disappears. This is a problem, since once I edit the html of an image I can no longer see the image in the visual editor. I’m not sure how to resolve this since I have no idea how the blocks are built. But I’m sure for a lot of us, being able to edit the html of an image is essential.

    Hiya,

We’re actively working on improving the images in Gutenberg, there are a few flaws with the mat this time that we’re aware of unfortunately. They are actively being fixed, and we have a large ticket covering all the problems we’ve discovered so far and are still discovering with then.

You can follow along with it if you’d like.

As for titles, you can assign an image a title if you hit the little “Edit” pencil when you select an image. The title isn’t used on the page (if this will become a thing or not I can’t say, but I don’t think so), as they do not serve a proper purpose besides creating a tooltip. It’s much more preferred to use the Alternative text field.

Thanks so much for your reply. I checked out the link. It looks like you’re working on a lot! In the meantime I think I’m going to stick with the old editor until more of it is sorted out.
