• Hi guys,

So I’ve finally managed to start my blog, it’s been up for the past three days, and now I’m considering what every responsible web manager gotta do: start backing up your site.

So how do I go about doing that? And more importantly, what specific steps do I need to take to backup WordPress? And god forbid, if my site crashes for some reason, how do I bring it back from the backups?

Thanks, looking forward to your replies.

I have copied all of my files to my pc using filezilla. I interpret the backup instructions to require that I also backup my database. Is this separate from my files and if so how do I find it? Or, have I backed up my site properly so that I can recreate it if necessary?

yes, your files and database back up is always different. Your posts other data that in your blog are saved in database. So database back up is the most important.

Also, you can take the post back up in XML format from your wordpress admin panel. Just go to Tools –> Export.

when backing up a database, which are the core files we have to back up?

I read that some plugins won’t do well when backing up….

So, I should only back up files like wp_users and wp_comments?
