Grid Suggestions?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a post grid plugin? I’d prefer a free one. I’m using gridfx right now but I find it really hard to work with and want to replace it with something else.

I need it to be able to show (with some customizing if need be):
posts in a grid based on category
a button instead of “read more”
Created Date and Updated Date of the post
the value of a custom field
the excerpt field and NOT the first x words of the post

Here’s an example of what it currently looks like. “Fostered By” is a custom field and “Neutered Males” is in the excerpt field:

Anyone have any suggestions? I find a lot of the grid programs aren’t easily customized or they cost something. Gridfx is used in that link, but I’m trying to upgrade the site and even though the new theme shouldn’t affect it, Gridfx no longer works properly.
