• I get an ugly result when I go on my Facebook group page https://www.facebook.com/groups/169400953696154/ and link to my WordPress site https://bristolcommentary.uk/bristol-overwhelmingly-against-high-rises

    I would like to get:
    * Brief text written by me
    * Image
    * Large title of my blog post

    (that’s what I get when I link from Facebook to newspaper sites)

    But what I actually get is:
    * Brief text written by me
    * Ugly url of my blog post
    * Image
    * No title of my blog post

    How to fix this? I am posting directly in my Facebook group, just like if I was posting a link to a newspaper article. So it is surprising that the result is so different. Why is that?

    Would I achieve a better result by using one of the plugins? My purpose in setting up a WordPress blog is largely to achieve social media impact via Facebook, Twitter, and Linked In, so I am disappointed by the poor formatting. But, hey, this is only my 2nd day on WordPress, so probably things will improve.

  • Hi there,

    I think I know what you’re referring to about the well-formatted Facebook posts, but let me know if you’re looking for something different.

    It sounds like the best solution for this would be to use the plugin Jetpack, as it has a feature called Publicize that gives you more robust options when sharing WordPress posts on social media like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Note that for help with Jetpack, you’ll get the best support at the Jetpack Support Forums.

    Hope this helps!

    Correct, that is what I am referring to. Thanks for the reference. I have downloaded jetpack but paused because I seemed to be asked to install all components, not just one or two. I’ll explore further.

    Hi Courtney,

    There is a problem with the way Facebook treats Jetpack. I am trying to post to a Facebook Group, but Facebook has recently disallowed such apps posting to Groups. So I have to post to Facebook by hand and so my original question is still relevant – how to better format the post?

    Hi again! It seems that Facebook continues to add more restrictions, so unfortunately there isn’t a lot of control over the previews of link shares any more. ??

    We recommend starting with Facebook’s Guide to Sharing for Webmasters for tips on how to optimize shares to FB.

    Hope this helps!
