    Hello,

since the 1.7 update of BNFW the plugins has stopped generating emails for a “New User Registration – For Admin” type notification. New users are registering on our site, but our mail logging shows that BNFW does not generate and send out any notification when they do.

Test emails from that notification are being sent fine and are delivered on our end.

It all worked fine before we updated the plugin to version 1.7.

    Regards,
    Rafael

    Hi @jordh,
    Thanks for your message.

Can you try deleting the notification and creating it again from scratch?
Copying and pasting information from the subject and message body fields should be fine.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi, I too have had this issue and deleting the notification and creating a new one from scratch had no effect. Thanks.

    Hi @jordh and @basemediauk,
I just tested this by creating a new user via the ‘Register’ button on the wp-login.php page and it sent both the ‘New User Registration – For User’ and ‘New User Registration – For Admin’ notifications correctly for me and to their intended recipients.

Is it possible another plugin is conflicting with the update to BNFW? Do you have any thoughts on what these might be?

We have this issue as well.

The issue only started to occur when we updated to V1.7. This was not an issue with the previous releases <= v1.6.14.

I took a look at the source code delta (v1.6.14 –> v1.7) and it was clear that adjustments were made to the code in the area of new user notifications but nothing jumped out on first review as a potential culprit.

One possibility to consider is that this is a multi-site issue (our site with the issue is a multi-site).

We will do a test on one of our single sites to determine if this is a general issue or a multi-site specific issue. I will add an update to this forum thread once we have done the tests.

In parallel you might also do a multi-site test.

Thanks in advance for your assistance and all your hard work on this plug-in. It is a very good plug-in and we appreciate your hard work on it. Thank you ??

    Kind regards,
    Tim (OnePressTech)

We’re using the Peepso social network suite of plugins, which is how new users register but it worked all fine until the 1.7 update. Thanks.

    Hi @timhibberd and @basemediauk,
    Thanks for chiming in.

I’m having a hard time pinning down the issue as it’s working fine for me and has done both before and after the update to 1.7. The update did include changes to how the New User Registration notifications worked but this was to add better support for other plugins that may wish to override this notification.

Can you confirm that WordPress is fully up-to-date? It’s possible another plugin is conflicting too so i’m interested to hear if anything is resolved if you were to follow this support document.

    Hello @voltronik,

sorry for not updating this earlier, I had been very busy during the last days.

I have re-created the notification from scratch, but none of the new users since then has triggered the notification. Users register through a custom WooCommerce form instead of the standard WordPress form, but that has not been an issue before the 1.7 update. The form ist still processed through the standard WordPress user management and other custom code manages to hook into that process without issue.

On a side node, we also use the bbpress forum plugin and I had built custom notifications for new forum topics and replies, but those notifications never triggered.

    Regards,
    Rafael

Edit: For reference, the most “intrusive” plugins used are Woocommerce, WPML and Wordfence. All plugins are up-to-date.

    Hi @jordh,
    Thanks, that’s helpful.

Is the WooCommerce front-end form the one that comes with WooCommerce or is it provided by custom code or another plugin? This will hopefully give me a good point to test from.

Edit: Forgot to mention that full support for bbPress should be coming as an add-on in the future but there’s no timeframe for this yet.

I Have the same problem (BNFW stopped sending New User notifications), including after deleting and recreating the notification. I did a test with a “New Post Published” notification and it worked fine.

    Hi @tongoa,
Are you using a plugin to handle user registrations or is this via the built-in WordPress registration page?

Hi, I’m not a developer so not 100% certain, but I believe it’s done via the built-in WP registration page. New registrations are listed as Customers on WP Dashboard > Users if that helps. My main plugins are WooCommerce and LearnDash, but my site also has a free-with-registration library that operates external to these plugins. Library users are also listed as customers (so they can use their same login if they buy a course at a later time). I cannot see any other plugin that could be handling registrations.

Forgot to mention before that “Send me a test email” works, but when I create a new registration using my site’s registration form I do not receive a notification.

Hope this answers your question. Thanks for the support, Dave.

    Hi @tongoa,
It sounds like it could be an issue with WooCommerce where new customers who register for an account at checkout aren’t triggering the notifications.

Let me do some investigating and get back to you.

    Hi All,
    Just a quick update.

Any of you having problems when using BNFW in conjunction with WooCommerce: this is because WooCommerce have recently changed how they create the new user notifications. It may be possible to get this working if you disable the notification within WooCommerce but keep it enabled within BNFW.

For anyone else having issues since the 1.7 release, please let me know if you’re using any particular user registration or membership plugins and i’ll re-investigate.

    Hello @voltronik,

    thank you for your update.

User registration on ur site is done via a custom WooCommerce login/register page that has additional fields (e.g. address, company name) which get saved to the User Metadata table. Those are added through our theme’s function.php which also handles validation and passes the additional values to the database via update_user_meta() functions.

Before the 1.7 update of BNFW some default user infos were already missing in the notifications (like the tags for username and first and last name, which are stored in the regular User table), but others (e.g. user email) were properly included in the notification mails (which also were triggered properly back then).

    Regards,
    Rafael
