  • Hello,

Are you updating in your admin area whenever you get notifications to do so?

As long as you maintain your updates, then you’re set to upgrade to the latest version of php. All of our themes and plugins are compatible with the latest php versions.

i see nothing to update. how do i check my version? using a child theme allows automatic updates?

Have you been keeping up with updates? Whenever you see notification to update a theme or plugin in your admin, you should always upgrade to the latest version.

You can check the version of your theme by going to Appearance> themes, and selecting Virtue theme. It should tell you right there.

If you’ve setup an automatic update plugin or something to automatically update your theme and plugins, then this should work with a child theme. This is not default behavior of WordPress though, so by default your themes and plugins will not auto update.

Your child theme version number will not change with updates. Only the parent will. Themes pull the version number from your style.css file, so you would have to manually change this in a child theme, which is not necessary.

when i go to appearence/theme i see CHILD theme like the activated theme.
regular virtue theme not shown as activated, if i enter to virtue theme it says version 3.2.8 but there is the activate option like this is not the running themme…the child is. i have never made any update or seen any update suggestion about the theme.. its very confusing i dont get if i am doing things well…

You don’t need to worry about activating the parent theme to keep updated. Your child theme doesn’t need to update the same as the parent, unless there are file changes that conflict with your customization.

3.2.8 is the current version, so you’re up to date. ?? Here’s a little guide on how updating works in WordPress:

If you haven’t been manually updating things, then you may have configured something on your site to autoupdate. Regardless, you’re on the most current version of the theme and can upgrade to the latest php version without concern.
