• Hi all

Needing some help. One of my blog posts is being spammed with comments, I have over 20,000 sitting there on wordpress, all about Casinos and gambling. The most annoying part is it just clogging my inbox! Anyone else experienced this and no how to a, handle the comments and email spam and b, stop it from happening.

    Thanks

  • You can do the following :

Flag a comment as spam based on the number of links it has.
Blacklist commenters in reaction to previous spam.
    Disable trackbacks and pingbacks.
Only allow registered users to post comments in Discussion settings.
    Install akismet plugin

Yoi can use plugin Akismet to prevent spam in comment section.

Start deleting them as you think about it and add Akismet to your site. You don’t need to delete them fast and Akismet will recheck them if asked.

Set Akismet to ‘delete the most pervasive spam’. It will save the ones it questions for your decision but if it knows the spam already then it will delete it.

Any channel that lets a spammer post something needs to be monitored by the admin and or an automated system like Akismet. Else you are just declaring an open house.

If you don’t qualify for the free Akismet plan, use “Antispam Bee” instead.

Thanks for the recommendation – it has worked.. now to delete 4000 WordPress comment emails in my inbox!!!

As someone in the offending industry, I suggest you make your links no-follow by default. This should tone down the affiliates looking to place casino links. Generally, they come from lazy operators who wish to spam comment sections as a substitute for decent SEO. By making them no-follow, you will avoid much of this.
