I am attempting to develop a website for a business using wordpress and I would like to include links. I would also like to remove Blogroll since I am not using the site as a blog. The problem is that when I remove the widget that allows links it seems maditory that blogroll be there. When I disable the widget it also disables all the links I wanted to have. I am also learning as I go reading WordPress for dummies, and I’m not sure I even qualify as a dummy yet. Thanks for any help. Oh, and I do not know which version I am using, I just assumed it was 2.7 since I downloaded it yesterday.

  • Move or remove all links from the Blogroll Link category. Configure one of your other Link categories as the default via Admin/Settings/Writing, then delete the Blogroll category. The rest of your links should be retained.

Thank you very much – I was not expecting an answer so soon. Your directions were easy to follow and it worked great!

I’m having the same problem but when I go to the admin panel, I cannot delete blogroll as a default category

Hi i had the same problem. this is what I did and it worked for me. Leave blogroll as the default in Admin/Settings/Writing. It is the only option there.

Instead go to Admin/Appearance/Widgets. Drag the widgets you want over to the Sidebar. I used, Archives, Categories and also left Meta. You have the option to rename the heading if you want. Do one at at time and save. Also the first time I tried to drag a widget it didn’t seem to stick, but then it would.

Once these were saved WP used that instead instead of the default on the blog itself. I think I am on 2.9.1?? so maybe it is a new thing?
