    Hi,

Due to the index bug that was a result of the yoast seo update in version 7.x, we remained with 6.3.1 which still seems mostly problem free on the latest version of wp.

To correct the update change feature in version 7x you launched Yoast SEO Seach engine purge plugin to rectify this issue for many users.

Having followed all the spport issues posted here since March 8.3 seems to be fairly clean, but is the extra Yoast purge plugin still required to update to 8.3, or have the necessary changes been incorporated in the latest updates and fixes so that the purge plugin is no longer required? And if ok are there any other settings that you recommend to be adjusted manually to provide a 6.3.1 glitch free experience with 8.3?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello @hiflyman! The Purge plugin was only needed by those who upgraded to Yoast SEO 7.0-7.0.2 versions which resulted to lots of attachment URLs getting into Google’s index. The Purge plugin was created to purge attachment URLs out of the search results by making every attachment URL return a 410 status code. You can read more about the issue and how it was immediately fixed in this article.

There is no need to install the Purge plugin if you upgrade from 6.3 directly to 8.3.

    Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply. All updated with no known issues at present thanks.

Might be worth pointing out in your update support material, that the latest updates override any Yoast settings previously saved, and for themes that don’t have inbuilt bread crumb support where it is manually added that previous line code is removed and has to be added manually at each update, well that is until a version comes out that remembers all previous user yoast settings.

    Thanks again.
