    Hey Franky,

is there a way to include the event-images on the website without download them?
So that the image-files stay at facebook and get still included into the website via the fb-image-url?

    Thanks for your help.
    Best greets,
    Andreas

No, it is always recommended to serve images from the same site as you’re browsing.
If you really want to get your new image from facebook, set the sync option “Skip synced events and locations” to 0.

Well, guess I have to change the eme-sync-facebook-events.php so that there are no images imported. Got some copyright problems and I dont want to take the risk for future imports. Can you tell me where I can change the file?

    Thanks a lot!

Imports of public images shouldn’t pose a copyright problem (but it is certainly not a GDPR issue).
But if you’re concerned about the copyright: just don’t show the image …

It may cause a copyright issue because the download from fb to my server means that I copy the image. And this might be a problem. In contrast the embedding of the image which still is hosted on the fb-server might not be a copyright problem.

I could indeed add an option to either download the image or just keep use the fb url …
Feel free to donate something to make this quick ??

Sounds great. Would be a great feature which probably makes it possible to include even the films which are more frequently used in fb-events instead of images.

Is it only possible to donate via paypal or creditcard?
May sound weird to you, but I got neither paypal nor creditcard.
Is it possible to donate something via oldschool banktransfer?

You can find my info (and bank account info too) on my main website: https://www.e-dynamics.be . I can block nobody for donating oldschool of course, but I always assumed a paypal donation button was easier ??
Concerning the image: the plugin only downloads the “main” image of the facebook event, using the API towards facebook with the call to get the event cover or picture. I don’t think that will ever return a video (unless the ‘cover’ does). Inside the event, all links/images/videos stay as on the facebook event of course.

Also as a sidenote: while I do support the notion of pointing to the facebook image and not storing it directly, it can be that the url is only valid for a certain period of time (so you’ll have to deactivate the option to skip synced events and locations in that case).
And I have no idea if facebook will like it if you point to them for an image from a local site ??

Hey. It′s not that important to me if the videos are shown or not. The main goal for me is that the images are just embedded and not imported.

And I got another wish, but open a new thread for that. ??

Hey Franky. Just wanted to ask if you′ll implement the feature to implement the images without downloading. At the time I have changed the plugin, so that it doesnt download the images. But I would love to show the images on my site again.

Thanks for your response and your lovely plugin!

Sorry, I missed your donation and lost track of this thread …
I released 1.0.40 for this now. From the changelog:

    * To avoid copyright infringement, the cover image will no longer be downloaded by default (you have to activate that as an option now)

A small sidenote: the facebook url for images contains arguments, and there’s no telling if it will actually work when included from your site or if the url expires after a while. Just so you know ??

Hey Franky. Thousand thanks for your work!
I just updated to the new version. Seems to work absolutely fine so far. The only prob I have now is that the plugin Responsive Lightbox & Gallery doesnt work with it. Probably it doesnt detect it as an image. Guess I need to implement a lightbox-effect manually.

I will test the syncs further during the week. We will see if it is a problem when the fb-url expires after a while, even if the events are updated periodically.

Thanks again! You made me a happy Sunday evening.
