• I’m sorry, I don’t usually review and I don’t usually mind buying plugins to support developers. But this plugins really surprised me with it’s limited free features and high price. First of all, a free plugin should in my mind offer functional free features and then add more options in pro version. So for this plugin to have star rating on thumbnails locked behind a pro version forcing users to go to the post page and load an entire page just to see the rating is in my world not acceptable. Users should not be forced to load pages unnecessarily. Scrolling through hundreds of reviews, maybe a user want to see and read the reviews with a high score. With the free plugin they have to go to each page just to see the score.

    Yes, there is a widget, but who wants a mile long widget in the sidebar?

    Then, I thought I would go check the pro version just to quickly close down the page, remove the plugin and find another review plugin. That price just to get an option that should be free to start with? No thanks. My readers shall not load hundreds of pages unnecessarily just because the developer locks main feature behind a paywall.

  • Agree! Fortunately I managed to overcome this limitation by adding a small code snippet in my functions.php:

    add_filter( 'the_excerpt', 'my_review_inject_data');
    function my_review_inject_data($content){
    	$post_id = get_the_ID();

    	if (! function_exists('wp_review_show_total') || ! is_main_query() || ! in_the_loop() || is_singular() ) {
    		return $content;
    	}

    	return wp_review_show_total(false, 'review-total-only', $post_id) . $content;
    }
