That definitely sounds like spam attempts. We are working on a couple different solutions to harden our forms against those types of attempts. But here’s a few things to help in the meantime:
1) Enable our Akismet integration:

2) Disable the “Comments” feature, that is what is most likely attracting the spam attempts.
3) Set a minimum donation amount of at least $10 — accepting less than that with PayPal or other gateways just means you lose a higher percentage of your revenue per donation.
