New topic as per moderator’s instructions. My addition to another identical topic was deleted.

Following update to latest NextGen, there is a failure with the widget.
Widget has two options ‘random’ and ‘recent’, and three options ‘all galleries’, ‘galleries listed only’, ‘except galleries listed’.
    ‘random’ ‘all galleries’ is OK
‘random’ ‘galleries listed only’ FAILS with no image found
‘random’ ‘except galleries listed’ is OK
    ‘recent’ ‘all galleries’ is OK
‘recent’ ‘galleries listed only’ is OK
‘recent’ ‘except galleries listed’ is OK

Choosing 1 or 4 images makes no difference
Choosing 1 or more galleries in the list makes no difference
Use of IE8 slices (or not) makes no difference

So just the one options setting (‘random’ and ‘galleries listed only’) is failed by the update.

I need to revise this report about the sidebar widget.

When set to random, ‘all galleries’, there are images displayed (number as in selection control), but the image(s) then don’t change as the page is changed.

Likewise, when set to ‘random’ and ‘except galleries listed’, there are images chosen on first use, but they never change after that.

Normal behaviour has been that the images are a new random selection for each page load or page refresh. I have cleared browser cache but no effect.

    Hi @mbsharp!

We have two reports with that “random” setting and our widget.
We would like to take a look if you like.

The form was filled in and additional information was provided as requested. A support ticket was created on the Imagely site.

As can be seen from later reports, there are many others reporting essentially the same issue. I am therefore puzzled why the support ticket was closed, and I have reactivated it.

Same problem here with Nextgen Widget, it has stopped working some time ago (probably after last update?).

    I have settings:
    – Show: random
    – Select: Only which are listed

The widget then only shows message “no images were found”.

When changing settings to for instance:
    – Show: recently added
    – Select: Only which are listed
    then everything works.

So random is not working for a specific gallery ID. Hopefully this will be fixed in next version.

    Hello and Happy Thanksgiving.

Please accept my sincere apology @mbsharp and @clavans
The bug report is currently in our developer’s hands, they are reviewing the problem.
That particular bug report is not closed.

    Hi there,

Similar problem with my side bar NextGen widget-
    1. Only the recent gallery works on my side bar, can’t choose random option.
    2. I can only choose one gallery, while I have many more galleries I’d like to choose from.
    3. If I choose Random – the display is – “no images were found”.
    4. If I choose a few galleries – instead of 6 photos, i get only 2 showing on the side bar.

    Can you please advise.
    Thanks
    Orna

    Hi @orna60 and @ray-photo

At this moment I have checked the ticket status, and the issue has already been fixed by our developers but is yet to be included in our stable release.

    Please, be patient.

    Hi Gaby,

thank you for addressing the issue and getting back to us. Much appreciated.

Hope the issue is resolved soon, as the gallery previously on the side bar using pics randomly from different galleries, and not just from 1 gallery and recent, was great. Hope we can get it back again, as my website rely a lot on photos.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Gaby,

Same problems here. Hope the fix will be released soon. Thank you!

    Kind regards,

Sounds familiar to me. I’m also having problems with the NextGen Widget. I have set 10 photos and only 9 are shown. And mostly the same pics everytime.

Hope that this problem will be fixed soon.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

seems to be fixed in version 3.1.5
Note that ransom selections for a widget are cached for some time

It indeed seems that this problem has now been resolved. Nice!

Does anyone know how long the “random” images are cached and if there is a way to change the length of that cache. I am going to look through the code to see if I can find it but I thought I’d ask here in case someone already knows.

    Hi @grandslambert

Please go to Gallery > Other options > Miscellaneous > Random widget cache duration
    Change that value.
You might also need to adjust the setting “Use alternative method of retrieving random image galleries” and check again.

I’ll proceed to mark this thread as resolved! Many thanks!
