I suddenly got this error that prevents any user including the Admin from logging in to the site. On the advice of Dreamhost, I deactivated all plug-ins and was then able to log in.

I started activating plugins and was able to log in after I had activated 6 plugins. Then I activated WP-Members and then I again got User not activated.

I again deactivated all plug-ins and was then able to log in. This time I activated only WP-Members and then I again got User not activated.

Any ideas? The members’ section on the website currently does not link to the member login page.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

When you set the plugin to moderate registration (require admin approval of users), it will automatically set the current user as activated. However, any other users need to be activated, including admins. So if you’re using a second/different account, you need to make sure that user is activated.

I logged in as the Admin User. I assume I am your current user? No plugins were activated. I activated WP-Members and confirmed that “moderate registration” was checked. I logged out.

On logging in again as the same Admin User, I got the “User not activated” message once more.

I am curious why this is happening now. I have had WP-Members installed for some time with other plugins without issues. My most recently added plugin was one that bars bots from registering. I deactivated that one first and the “not activated” issue went away until the next day.

There’s a difference between setting the option and checking it. So it sounds like what you’re saying is that you logged in, looked at the setting, saw it was on and then logged out. That doesn’t change anything with regards to your specific user.

That’s different than what I said above – the act of turning on the setting activates the current user (that’s you, because you are logged in).

Hopefully that’s a little more clear – looking at the setting is not an active action, turning it on/off is.

I am curious why this is happening now.

There’s not enough information to determine that. Do you have more than one admin account? Did you use a different account previously and now are using a different one that you created? The admin account you used to turn on the setting would be the one that is marked as already activated. If you created a second admin account, that account needs to be activated to be able to be used (something you can do from the Users > Add New screen when you create the user).
