Yes so frustrating! It was a real long day for me…. I deleted the blog through my host and then re-installed WordPress and restored everything from a backup.

So far everything is back to normal, but like you suggested, maybe it’s not a full solution?

I had Securi plugin but I have now added Wordfence as well because it has a firewall. Hoping that blocks this from happening again.

Any thoughts on where out sites might be vulnerable?

As suggested above, ccarefully follow this guide.

When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Off hand, couple of names that come to mind are Sucuri and Wordfence.

Check if you had the GDPR Compliance Plugin installed. If you did, and it wasn’t updated, that’s likely what caused your issues. I just went through fixing this on one of my websites.

Yep, I have it all sorted now. That was a bit stressful, to say the least. Good to know about WordFence… I think I will download Ninja instead as I’m already running Securi (without a firewall).
