    I have noticed that there is a case for distance in the plugin templates/members files.

    Can anyone explain how this works/is it supported? How do i set up a members distance search? It doesn’t seem to work on an xprofile address field. ie. I can’t select distance as a search mode in the search form.

    Hello lukepls,

    That case in the search form template is there to support the location or maps plugins that wish to be compatible with BP Profile Search and allow a search by distance. Unfortunately so far I’m not aware of any plugin that takes advantage of this opportunity.

    I am available to support any location or maps plugin to achieve compatibility with BP Profile Search, and if you wish you can mention this to your favorite location plugin author.

    I just wish to add a distance search based on an address location entered in a BP Profile Search form field which will filter members in the members loop to those within that distance. Can your plugin perform this already or is additional functionality or an additional plugin required?

    Hi lukepls,

    You need a location plugin, based on Google Maps, that allows each user to enter their location, and then calculates and stores the lat-long coordinates for that location.

    Additionally, on request by BP Profile Search, that plugin will need to provide the list of users located within a given distance of a given location.

    As already mentioned, so far I’m not aware of any compatible location plugin, but I am available to help any location plugin author to achieve compatibility with BP Profile Search.

    Hi Andrea, would you be able to integrate with GeoMyWP plugin please? This supports a distance search for members, you type in a place to search from (it autocompletes), and select a radius.

    I am the developer of GEO my WP plugin.

    An integration of GEO my WP and BP Profile Search plugin has been on my to-do list for a while. I have also discussed this with Andrea in the past.

    It is a few recent urgent major releases of GEO my WP which kept me extremely busy and unable to work on new features.

    I will try to get into this ASAP and hopefully will make this happen.

    Will this require an (expensive) API at Google?

    Yes, it requires a Google API key. The cost goes up with use, but is free below a certain threshold.

    distance search with GEO my WP / BP Profile Search would be awesome! But why using Google Maps? OSM/Leaflet would be much nicer!

    Hi All,

    I am now wrapping up the new version of GEO my WP which includes integration with BP Profile Search. I hope to release it within the next couple of days.

    And GEO my WP does support OSM out of the box which you could use instead of Google Maps.
