Plugin not updated, bugs appearing and no support

When I installed this plugin about 3 years ago I loved what it did and how it looked to the visitor, and proceeded to use it on several other sites. The new version about a year ago seemed good, although it was a bit irritating that you could no longer edit older slides.
Three weeks ago I tried to add a new slide to a page that already has several slides on it from both versions of the plugin. Although it appeared as I wanted it in the editor when I published it to the page it seemed to revert to the default settings of size – so a portrait image was now landscape and squished. Also, standard paragraph text that is on the page above the slides disappeared.
I put a support request on the forum and when I didn’t get any response from that, submitted an email to the author (although I knew this should only be used for the Pro version). Still no response. If I knew that the Pro plugin would work I would consder upgrading, even though I don’t require any of the features on it. However, I fear it may also not work and, given this experience, I am not confident that I would get any response from the author. I am therefore faced with having to completely redesign the page.
Sadly I will not be using this plugin on other sites and am no longer able to recommend it.
