    Hi, I have been a happy User Profile Picture 1.5.5 admin for a while, but today when I upgraded to 2.0.0, it crashed my entire site and backend access, giving this error message:

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/60/7254960/html/wp-content/plugins/metronet-profile-picture/metronet-profile-picture.php on line 641

    Fortunately, I was able to restore my website by deleting the plugin, and then re-installing a backup of 1.5.5 which I had kept.

    I’m only guessing here, but I suspect your new Gutenberg stuff is what did it, since I don’t use the Gutenberg publish tool. Instead, I am one of millions of WordPress admins who decided to stick with the old publish tool, which is now maintained via a plugin named “Classic Editor” (version 0.5). That plugin enables the WordPress classic editor and the old-style Edit Post screen layout (TinyMCE, meta boxes, etc.).

    Can you test your 2.0.0 to make sure it is compatible with the WordPress-designed Classic Editor plugin? I really like using your plug in and hope to keep it for years to come. Thanks!

    If you don’t mind me asking, what PHP version are you running?

    Running PHP version: 5.2.17

    @bruceparker1,

    Thanks for your patience and I apologize for crashing your site. The line you mentioned was incompatible with PHP 5.2.

    I have fixed this in version 2.0.1 and you should be able to upgrade without your site crashing.

    That worked, Ronald. Thanks so much!

    Before I exit this thread, what are you thoughts on running PHP 5.2.17? Is it okay for a few more years, or not? I realize it’s outdated, but I don’t know if I should upgrade, as it could require a lot of testing for the site to be sure it can work.

    Thanks for any thoughts you have on it.

    It’s antiquated. All my sites run PHP 7.0+.

    Thanks for the advice. My host seems to provide only PHP 5.6 as the newest version option for me. Does it jump up to 7.0 from that version?

    Yes, it does. I would use something like: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/php-compatibility-checker/ to test your site for higher versions of PHP and urge your host to upgrade you to 7.x if your site passes. You’ll see a huge performance increase if you upgrade.
