Publicize: Custom message on Facebook [more words]

Hi there,

I’m not sure what you mean by the message doesn’t match. Doesn’t match what?

The screen shot you posted above is what will display if no custom Publicize message is set – in that case we use an automatic excerpt from your post for the status update on Facebook.

The part below that is a preview that Facebook generates themselves. That will either use a custom excerpt, if you have one set, or if you don’t Facebook will generate their own automatic excerpt.

So the status message and the Facebook preview will not always match, depending both on whether or not you set a custom Publicize message, and whether or not you created a custom excerpt for your post.

Please let me know if I’m misunderstanding you. In order to troubleshoot this any further I would need a link to your site, though, and preferably for the exact post.

That’s very odd, normally we hear of troubles with the opposite: https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/6760

I know this is an old post, but this is exactly what’s been happening to me.

No rhyme or reason – sometimes it will do it, sometimes it won’t.

It’s driving me nuts.

Also include a link to a post you shared, and screen shots of both the custom message you have in the editor and what actually appeared on Facebook, similar to what the OP provided above, and we can take a look.

How do I access the custom message used in Publicize on a live post? It’s not visible.

Edit the post.

If you’re using the Classic Editor, click on Edit next to Publicize in the Publish module.

If you’re using the block editor, click the Jetpack icon at the top. If you don’t see the Jetpack icon, click on the three dots instead, and then select Jetpack.

That’s what I thought, but I do not see the custom message – which is probably half the problem. And I know I added one, I tagged someone and added hashtags.
